As the winter season blankets the mountains in a soft layer of snow, there’s nothing quite like a weekend getaway to rejuvenate the soul. This year, my husband Jesse and I decided to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and immerse ourselves in the stunning beauty of Alta Badia, leaving the kids at home for a well-deserved break.
A two-hour drive from Innsbruck, in northern Italy, the moment we arrived in Alta Badia, we were captivated by the breathtaking scenery. Towering peaks kissed with snow, charming hotels and homes dotting the landscape, and the crisp mountain air created the perfect backdrop for our adventure. It felt like stepping into a postcard, and we knew this was going to be a trip to remember.
We checked into the luxurious Hotel Badia Hill, a true gem nestled in the heart of the Dolomites. From the moment we entered, we were enveloped in warmth and elegance. Our room offered stunning views of the mountains, and the cosy décor made it feel like a home away from home. The highlight of our stay was the rooftop heated swimming pool, where we soaked in the warmth while gazing at the snow-capped peaks. There’s something magical about swimming under the stars with the chill of the mountain air surrounding you; it felt like a dream. We also embraced the ‘naked area’ within the hotel. I loved it, but my husband not so much!

One of the best parts of our getaway was the culinary experience at the hotel, surrounding restaurants and of course experiencing Alta Badia’s fabulous Gourmet Skisafari. It’s a breathtaking annual event that takes place at the start of December each year and combines exhilarating skiing with a culinary adventure like no other – a Gourmet Skisafari ticket, bought in the first mountain hut you stop at, allows you to ski between huts, stopping off to taste signature dishes, created in person by Michelin starred chefs and served with a matched glass of delicious wine. This year, a Gourmet Skisafari ticket to stop at three huts cost just €60pp, or you could choose to enjoy a dish at all five huts for €90pp. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Dolomites, skiers traverse an extensive network of slopes, showcasing the region’s diverse terrain and spectacular scenery. What truly sets this event apart is the gastronomic delight awaiting participants at the end of their runs, featuring exquisite dishes crafted by Michelin-starred chefs. Each stop along the way offers a chance to savour innovative and traditional flavours, turning a day on the slopes into an unforgettable feast for the senses. This rare opportunity to indulge in world-class cuisine while enjoying the thrill of skiing makes the Gourmet Skisafari in Alta Badia a must-experience event of the year.

Now, let’s talk about the skiing! Although neither Jesse nor I would consider ourselves pros, we were eager to hit the slopes together. Renting ski equipment was a breeze, thanks to the convenient facilities near the hotel. The staff were incredibly helpful, ensuring we had everything we needed to feel comfortable and safe. As we glided down the slopes, the thrill of skiing was matched only by the breathtaking views surrounding us. The runs were well-groomed, and there were plenty of options for beginners like Jesse and me. We took our time, embracing the gentle slopes and enjoying the scenic beauty of the Dolomites. Each turn brought a rush of exhilaration, and we couldn’t help but laugh as we wobbled through our first runs.
It was a joy to share this experience with Jesse; we encouraged each other, celebrated small victories, and even had a few tumbles that left us in fits of laughter. Skiing together became a delightful bonding experience, reminding us of the importance of stepping outside our comfort zones and trying something new.
As the sun began to set, painting the sky in hues of pink and orange, we found a cosy spot on the mountain to take it all in. The beauty of Alta Badia was unmatched, and we felt grateful for the moments we shared, away from the noise of our daily lives.
If you’re looking for a winter escape filled with stunning landscapes, luxury accommodations, and the thrill of skiing, Alta Badia is the perfect destination. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
This was a PR trip, but all opinions are my open and honest opinion
