We’re in that in-between stretch. Coat on for the school run, coat giving you a hot flush by the time you’re home, and absolutely no idea what the weather’s doing from one hour to the next.
So this week I’ve pulled together the Autumn coats I actually reach for when the seasons can’t make their mind up. Don’t worry, we will cover the ‘big coat’ shortly!
🧥 The Trench
Lightweight, endlessly wearable, and instantly makes an outfit look considered. Over jeans and a jumper, over workwear, over a dress with boots – it just works.
If you only buy one coat this autumn, this is still the overall winner.
🌿 Jackets and Gilets
Funnel necks for the school run when you can’t be doing with a scarf. Barbours for the dog walks, pub lunches and muddy weekends. Extra warmth for when it’s a little more chilly and you still want a bit of style, plus a good gilet for the in-between days when a coat is too much but a jumper isn’t quite enough.
☔ The Rain Coat
Anyone else have to dig these out last week for the first time in what felt like forever?
A mac or waterproof that actually keeps you dry when you need it. The kind you can throw over anything and still feel half decent when you arrive somewhere slightly damp. Non-negotiable from now until next Summer!
🐑 Shearling, Faux Fur & Printed Car Coats
Whether it’s a reversible fur, a full teddy situation, or a mid-length car coat in a bold print – something with a bit of pattern is very on trend this season.
Warm, weirdly flattering, and the fastest way to look like you’ve made an effort when you genuinely haven’t.

This week’s small business is Self Care Co., founded by Nicole in her London kitchen nine years ago.
