As the back-to-school season is upon us, it’s natural to feel a bit overwhelmed with all the preparations and change in routines. Getting the kids used to the new school/pre-school year or starting nursery can create stress and anxiety for everyone, but I will share with you my tips on making it a much smoother experience.
The Family Calendar
Having a shared family calendar can work wonders. Mark important dates like school start times, lunches, extracurricular activities, PE days and deadlines. This helps everyone stay on the same page, gives you somewhere to point your partner when they ask in 6 months time what day PE is, and generally reduces last-minute chaos! Shop Family Calendars >
Prepare the night before
Mornings can be hectic, so try to prepare as much as possible the night before, I always regret those days when I skip this! Lay out clothes, pack lunches, and ensure backpacks are ready. This small step can save you a lot of stress in the morning when you all wake up late, or unplanned meltdowns arrive. Love this idea of having a school stuff station!
Sort your sleep out
A consistent sleep schedule is key for both you and the kids. Adjust bedtime routines if you need to in those first few weeks, these days are tiring for everyone! Well-rested kids (and parents!) will be more able to cope with anything new thrown at them! I also love my Lumie bodyclock lamp, great for SAD sufferers too.
Meal Plan!
Meal planning for the week ahead can save so much time and mental energy. I can then easily order everything I need with Ocado, and I mix it up with some meal kits delivered by HelloFresh too (use my discount code BACKWITHGOTIT for 60% off). This means I have a range of simple and nutritious options that can be prepped in advance with little thought, making dinners and lunches easier to manage.
Be Kind To Yourself
Finally, remember that it’s okay if everything doesn’t go perfectly. Be kind to yourself, and take breaks when you need them. A little self-care goes a long way in reducing overwhelm. Check out my wellbeing blog, oh and book yourself a spa day if you can!!
