Becoming a mother is one of life’s greatest transformations, but amidst the chaos, broken sleep, and endless responsibilities, it can feel like you’ve lost a part of yourself. It’s a journey filled with love, but it’s easy to forget who you were before “Mum.” I’m here for you – the woman who still has dreams, passions, and an identity that goes beyond motherhood. I’ll share with you the techniques I use, as believe me, Mama Still Got It!
Remembering Who You Were
Think back to the things that lit you up before becoming a mother – your hobbies, your career goals, your creative outlets. Schedule small moments to reconnect with them, even if it’s just for 10 minutes a day. It’s not about having hours of free time; it’s about nourishing the things that make you feel like you. For me, that could mean a cup of tea and a read of Red magazine or a child-free dinner with good friends at a favourite spot!
Blend Your Passions with Motherhood
Your passions don’t have to be put on hold. Whether it’s reading, painting, or exercising, find ways to involve your children or make the most of nap times. Your passions are part of who you are, and showing your children the importance of self-care and joy is one of the best examples you can set. For us, our time at David Lloyd Clubs allows us to do this as a family (and of course my drumming obsession).
Find Your Funny
Laughter truly is the best medicine, especially when life feels overwhelming. Do things that bring you joy and laughter – whether it’s watching a funny movie, sharing silly moments with your kids, or catching up with funny friends. Laughter lightens the load, reduces stress, and reminds you to enjoy the little things. And if you are looking for a giggle at the craziness that is parenting, then have a read of my Sunday Times Bestseller, How to make it through the Calpol years without losing yourself.
Express Yourself
There are so many ways to express ourselves, but this week I’ve been exploring how interior design choices can be such a great outlet for this, Ruggable’s House Lingo campaign is all about how our homes speak volumes about who we are. I mean what describes me more than a mama who loves a bold and colourful design, but needs a rug I can also put it in the washing machine? Beautiful & genius! The choice and quality are amazing, and even better use discount code LOUISEB for 15% off.
Embrace the New You
Motherhood changes us, but it doesn’t have to erase who we were. In fact, it can bring new layers of strength, creativity, and resilience. Take time to reflect on how you’ve grown and what new passions and friendships you might have discovered along the way. You’re not losing yourself – you’re evolving into something even more powerful. Oh, and never forget to reward yourself with some pamper treats, shop below or use my unique link for the Living Proof set, worth £85 but you get it for £48…
Date Night
Amidst the busy days of parenting, it’s easy for your relationship to take a backseat. But nurturing your connection with your partner is just as important. Schedule regular date nights – whether it’s a night out or a cosy evening at home after the kids are asleep. Spending quality time together as a couple helps strengthen your bond and reminds you both of the love that started it all. If you are a single parent, a date with a friend is just as powerful and allows you to have that space you need.
Once you’ve got it booked in, do try my new absolute fave lipstick range by Trinny London – Just Joyous for that extra confidence boost (I’m wearing “Poppy”)
Small Business Shout Out…
This week is a family business, A Year of Dates, starting from a single handmade jar of date ideas, to products that now make the perfect present for your partner or friends. They have ready made packs with all the ideas you need from the original date night prompts, to mate dates, self-care and even divorced versions!
See you next week for more recommendations, discount codes, and competitions. Your support means the world to me.
See you next week,
Louise x
