For Your Eyes Only…

I don’t know about you, but these Easter holidays are doing me in!  And it got me thinking…

Has covering dark circles under your eyes starting to consume a lot of your time? Worried how tired you’ll look at the school gates or concerned about that skin above your eye lid looking a little baggy?

Is the strain of motherhood starting to show in your face?

Inevitably we’re all getting older and of course we’re all worried about looking older too.  Becoming a mother has definitely made me notice the dark circles appear under my eyes from all the sleepless nights.   Teething and the 18 month sleep regression (which we’re in now – joy) are my top favourites for losing that sparkle in our eyes, and of course all the extra smiles and laughter we harvest from being with our little ones will naturally introduce fine lines appear around our eyes too.  Before you ask, yes I have tried not to smile so much but I can’t and seriously how dull!?

Luckily I’ve been around some of the best products from eye creams, concealers and eye make-up that take my vote.

If you haven’t already read my post about ‘Wake Up Fabulous’, read this now for what to do before you apply make up.

From Within

Ever heard the expression ‘you are what you eat’? Well I’m a big believer in this.  That’s why I use SkinAde everyday after my breakfast.  I really hope you click on this link and read all the science that goes behind this product. It’s pretty much liquid collagen – the key ingredient to younger looking skin.  I’m currently in the middle of the 30 day trial and I’ll be honest – I’m already starting to see the effects.  Once I have finished the programme I’ll do a big write up with before and after shots… stay tuned!

Puffy Eyes

After you have placed the cold spoons onto your eyes to kick start the circulation (from ‘Wake Up Fabulous’ post) use Dermalogica Ultrasmoothing Eye Serum  (£42)

It feels so light and fresh around the eye and not only targets puffy eyes but also the small signs of fine ageing lines around the delicate eye area.

Dark Shadows

Dark circles can be caused from so many things – fatigue, dehydration, bad circulation, or genes.  Invest in a brightening formula cream or gel as this will eradicate the accumulation of melanin in the skin.

Try Olay Illuminating Eye cream  (£19.99) It reflects light from the eyes for smoother, more radiant skin tone and hydrates to nourish under eye area for a luminous glow

Fine Lines

Repetetive facial movements and age causes a reduction in the skin’s elasticity, which unfortunately means wrinkles start to appear.  The skin around your eyes is also much more porous than the rest of your skin around your face so it’s more likely to take a battering from our environment.   Try out Eve Lom Time Retreat Eye Treatment (£50 from Space NK).  With vitamin C, it does wonders for brighting and plumping up those fine lines!

Navy is the new black

For brighter looking eyes, ditch your black mascara and try a navy one instead. Navy blue mascara instantly wakes up tired eyes (the shade counteracts any redness).  I’ve been using Boots No 7 Navy mascara (£12.50) and someone actually said I looked fresh at the school gates when I felt far from it.  Love to fool people!

Cover up the darkness

I’ve been blessed with high cheek bones, but as a result I’ve been troubled with sunken eyes – which means I am more prone to dark circles. Last week in the make up chair I was introduced to Sisley Phyto-Cernes Eclat eye concealer (£63 – pricey but worth every penny)

This miracle maker instantly masks dark circles and darkened areas, reduces puffiness and signs of fatigue, visibly smoothes wrinkles and fine lines. Its metal massage tip creates an immediate, cool decongesting effect and its brush allows for a customized application.  Day after day, Phyto-Cernes Eclat helps to significantly reduce the size of under-eye bags (Caffeine, Soy Peptide extract and Horsetail extract). Its supple, creamy formula ensures an easy application, natural finish, and a long wear.

Get nude

For that big, super-bright gaze or masking sleepless nights, swipe nude liner on the fleshy inner rim of the eyes (the waterline).  The nude colour will camouflage any pinkness that we all get from a bad night sleep and make your eyes look bigger and brighter.  I’ve been using Rimmell London Scandaleyes and for £3.99 it’s an absolute bargain and no brainer to give a go!

I’d love to know if you try any of these products out – if you are using any of them already and I’m looking forward to writing about my SkinAde 30 day trial!  So far so good!

Hope you’re all enjoying the Easter break with your little ones.  Anyone else ready for school to open????

Louise x

A few years back, with Twiggy’s blessings I was chosen to do an ad for Olay Illuminating eye cream. People are shocked that at 59 I don’t have lines around my eyes. Good stuff ?
